“Daily Show” correspondent Desi Lydic mocked Donald Trump on Wednesday for choosing former TV star Dr. Mehmet Oz to run the agency that oversees Medicare and Medicaid before cautioning that his pick could’ve been “worse.”
“At least Dr. Oz is an actual doctor, I’m impressed that he didn’t pick Dr Pepper,” Lydic joked.
“But is someone going to tell him that this isn’t actually a doctor’s job? This is running a vast insurance bureaucracy. If you have to pick someone from TV, at least pick the LiMu Emu.”
Critics have blasted Trump over the controversial pick, citing his history of quack medical advice as reason why he’s unqualified to lead the agency which oversees health insurance programs for millions of Americans.
Lydic tossed to a clip of CNN’s Anderson Cooper noting that Oz, who lost a 2022 bid for a U.S. Senate seat in Pennsylvania, touted the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 without evidence and Columbia University cut ties with him after doctors accused him of pushing cures for personal gain.
“I wonder how people got the idea that he was a serious medical expert in the first place?” asked Lydic, who cited Oz’s “long history of medical quackery.”
She then turned to old clips of CNN personalities inviting Oz onto programs including one where he discussed “finding a woman’s g-spot.”
Lydic was repulsed by the footage.
“I completely forgot CNN had that show, ‘Old Guys Talking Pussy.’ It was on right after ‘Crotchfire,’” she joked.
“And of course, you can count on a guy named Oz to know what’s behind the curtains.”
